iCloud, Fastmail and other calendars

Two-way Apple iCloud (and any CalDAV server), subscriptions to any .ics address, and one-off file imports.

Experimental. Integrations are still being tested. They may not run, or may give incomplete or wrong results — check anything important yourself, and tell us what goes wrong.

Google Calendar and Outlook sync both ways — see Google Calendar and Outlook Calendar. Apple iCloud, Fastmail, Nextcloud and other CalDAV calendars sync both ways too (below). Anything else with an .ics address can be subscribed to, read-only.

Apple iCloud, two-way

Your iCloud calendars — including ones shared with your family — in Daykite, both ways: add, move or delete an event on either side and it follows on the other within minutes.

  1. Make an app-specific password: sign in at account.apple.com → Sign-In and Security → App-Specific Passwords → +, and name it Daykite. (Your Apple ID needs two-factor authentication, which most have.) Daykite never asks for your Apple ID password.
  2. Integrations → Calendars → Apple iCloud (two-way): enter your Apple ID email and that password, then Connect.
  3. Choose which calendars come in, and into which Space — like Google and Outlook.

Fastmail, Nextcloud and other CalDAV servers: choose Another CalDAV server, enter the server's address (for example https://caldav.fastmail.com or https://your-cloud.example/remote.php/dav), your username and an app password from the provider's security settings.

Good to know:

  • Checked every 10 minutes; Sync now checks straight away. The past 90 days and the next year are kept in step.
  • Changes made in iCloud keep their details Daykite doesn't show — invitees, alerts, notes from Apple Calendar are left as they were.
  • Changing one occurrence of a repeating event (moving it, or deleting just that one) works both ways.
  • If an event was changed in iCloud at the same moment you changed it here, iCloud's version is kept and the event says so.
  • iCloud calendars you choose can hold your bookings: pick one under Bookings → Setup.
  • To stop, Disconnect on the card, and revoke the app-specific password at account.apple.com. If you change your Apple ID password, Apple revokes app-specific passwords — sign in again on the card with a new one.

Subscribe to a calendar

  1. Copy the calendar's address (see below). It starts with webcal:// or https://.
  2. Integrations → Calendars → Apple iCloud, Fastmail and any .ics address: paste it, give it a name if you like, and Subscribe.

The calendar appears in your personal Space. Daykite reads it again every 30 minutes (Refresh reads it now): new and changed events come in, and ones removed from the feed disappear. Repeating events show every occurrence, with moved and cancelled ones as they are in the source. The past 90 days and the next year are kept.

Where to find the address

Calendar Where
Apple iCloud In Calendar on iPhone, iPad or Mac, or on iCloud.com: open the calendar's sharing settings, turn on Public Calendar, and copy the link. Anyone with the link can see that calendar.
Fastmail Settings → Calendars → the calendar → Share → copy the iCal or read-only address.
Nextcloud Calendar → the calendar's menu → Share link → Copy subscription link.
Proton Calendar Settings → Calendars → the calendar → Share → Share via link → copy the link.
Schools, sports clubs, public holidays Look for "Subscribe", "iCal" or "Add to calendar" on their site.

Keep private addresses private: anyone who has one can read that calendar. Daykite shows only the site's name, not the address, once you've subscribed.

Good to know

  • Subscribed calendars are read-only in Daykite and count as busy on your booking page, like any other calendar.
  • Only public https:// addresses work — not addresses on your own network — and feeds up to 10 MB.
  • Unsubscribe removes the calendar and its events from Daykite; the source isn't touched.
  • A subscription is one-way. For iCloud, use the two-way connection above instead.

Import a file

Integrations → Calendars → Import an .ics file copies a one-off export — from Apple Calendar, Outlook or anywhere — into a new calendar in your personal Space. Unlike a subscription, it doesn't update, and you can edit the events.

Taking your calendars elsewhere

  • One calendar: Export .ics beside it under Integrations → Your calendars, or Download in Settings → Account → Your data. The file opens in Apple Calendar, Google Calendar or Outlook.
  • Everything: see Your data.
