Using the assistant
Ask about your day, find free time and move things around in plain words — nothing changes until you confirm.
The assistant is a chat panel on every screen of DayKite. Ask it things the way you'd ask a colleague, or tap a quick action. It reads your calendar, tasks and routines to answer, and it never changes anything until you press Confirm.
Opening it
- The round button at the bottom right of any screen (bottom left on a phone), or
- press J anywhere outside a text field. Esc closes it.
Quick actions
With an empty conversation you'll see buttons grouped by what they're for:
| Button | What you get |
|---|---|
| Plan my day | Today at a glance, and your most pressing tasks fitted into today's free time — each as a suggestion to confirm |
| What's important? | Overdue and high-priority tasks, and what's still to come today |
| Find focus time | Three free blocks over the next few days, in the part of the day you prefer |
| Review today / Review my week | Meetings, focus and free time, with overloaded days flagged |
| Find overload | Just the days with too many meetings |
| Unscheduled tasks / Review deadlines | Tasks that aren't on your calendar yet, and what's due this week |
| Review routines | Your routines, today's periods and their tasks |
| Fix routine clashes | Routine periods that an event has landed on in the next seven days, each with a suggested new time for that day |
These run on DayKite's own rules — no AI model is involved, so they're instant and always available.
Things you can ask
| Say | What happens |
|---|---|
| “What's on tomorrow?” | Your events, grouped by day |
| “Find me two hours to work on the website” | Three free slots. If a task's title matches, Schedule it puts the time on that task |
| “Move my 3pm to Friday” · “Move the dentist to 4pm” | A Move card showing the old and new time |
| “Cancel my 4pm” | A Cancel card, marked as a bigger change |
| “Protect Friday afternoon for deep work” | A protected focus block, 13:00–17:00 |
| “Remind me to send the invoice on Monday” | A task due Monday |
| “Remind me to call the bank tomorrow at 11” | A Personal event at 11:00 with a reminder at the time |
| “Amna's birthday is on 24 October” | An all-day event every year, with a reminder the day before and on the day |
| “Schedule lunch with Ahmed tomorrow at 1pm” | A new event, with a warning if it overlaps something |
| “How busy is my week?” | A day-by-day chart of meetings, focus and free time |
| “I prefer mornings for focus work” | Remembered — see Settings → Assistant |
| “Schedule my tasks this week” · “Plan my goals” | One card with every block the planner found; Confirm adds them all |
| “Never schedule meetings after 5 PM” · “Keep Friday afternoons free” | A standing protection rule |
| “Create a morning routine” · “Set up a gym routine on Mon, Wed and Fri at 6am” | A routine with periods and a few tasks in each, ready to edit — see Ask the assistant |
Asking for several things at once
Put several requests in one message: separate them with and, also, a semicolon or a new line. Each one gets its own card, so you can confirm some and cancel others.
Up to eight changes fit in one reply. When one of the requests needs an AI model, the whole message goes to it, and it's asked to make one card for each request.
Longer or more open requests — “Help me plan next week around the launch and the two client deadlines”, “Set up a weekly review every Friday at 4” — go to an AI model when your DayKite server has one connected. The model uses the same tools as the quick actions and can't do anything they can't.
Confirming
Anything that would change your calendar or tasks comes back as a card:
- Confirm does it, exactly as shown. Cancel leaves everything as it was.
- A card that would overlap something already booked says so before you confirm.
- Cancelling an event is shown as a bigger change, with Yes, do it.
- Suggestions expire after 30 minutes — ask again if you come back later.
Everything goes through the same checks as doing it yourself: you can only move or cancel events you organise, and changes reach Google Calendar and your guests the normal way.
What it remembers
When you tell the assistant how you like to work, it keeps it as a setting rather than a memory you can't see. Settings → Assistant shows and lets you change:
- the best part of the day for focus work,
- your usual meeting length,
- your usual focus block.
Rating answers
Use 👍 and 👎 under any answer. A 👎 asks what went wrong — that's how the assistant gets better at understanding requests.
