My Day, availability and protected time

One schedule for every part of your life, how Daykite rates free time, and rules that keep time for what matters.

My Day

Today opens on My Day: one list of everything happening today, in time order — meetings from every Space, routine periods, focus blocks, breaks and buffers, the time you've protected, and the free stretches in between.

Each item says where it comes from, so work and home sit side by side without mixing:

Label Means
Personal Your Personal Space
A company or client name — FlyStone, Northwind That Space
Project Time set aside for a task or project
Booking Someone booked it on your booking page
Routine A period of one of your routines
Focus A focus block
Google An event from a connected calendar
Protected Time kept free by one of your rules

Free time shows how long it is and how good it is (see below). A line marks Now; what's already over fades. Prefer the hour-by-hour view? Switch to Timeline at the top — Daykite remembers your choice.

How Daykite rates free time

Every free stretch gets one to five stars, so the best time is obvious:

  • ★★★★★ Excellent — clear, with room either side
  • ★★★★ Good, ★★★ Fair
  • ★★ Poor — for example twenty minutes squeezed between two calls

Points come off for being back to back with something, squeezed into a short gap, inside time you've protected (but allowed meetings in), clashing with a routine, next to travel, or on a day that already has four hours of meetings. For focus work, time in your preferred part of the day scores better. Hover over the stars to see why.

The stars appear on My Day, in Find a time, and on the times the assistant suggests — and the assistant picks the best-rated times first.

Time also has a state:

State Means Offered for meetings?
Available Free inside your working hours Yes
Busy An event, a break or time off No
Tentative An invitation you haven't answered, or said maybe to No — it may still happen
Protected Focus time, focus hours, or a no meetings rule No
Unavailable Outside working hours, a day off, a holiday No

Invitations you've declined don't make you busy, and deadlines don't take up the time before them.

Protect my time

In Settings → Calendar → Protect my time, add rules that keep time for something every week:

  1. Add a rule — or pick a ready-made one: Deep-work mornings, No meetings after 5 PM, Friday afternoons free.
  2. Say what it's for, which days, from and until when, and how important it is.
  3. Choose whether meetings are allowed:
    • No meetings — the time is never offered on your booking page, in Find a time or by the assistant. Creating a meeting there asks Save anyway? first. Focus work and personal plans can still go there.
    • Allow meetings, but suggest other times first — it stays bookable, just rated lower.

Switch a rule off for a while with its toggle, rather than deleting it.

You can also just tell the assistant — "Never schedule meetings after 5 PM", "Protect my mornings for deep work", "Keep Friday afternoons free" — and confirm the rule it sets up.
