How the focus time calculator works
Your working day minus meetings, breaks and other commitments leaves gaps. Only gaps at least as long as your minimum focus block count as focus time.
Optionally, a few minutes after each meeting are counted as switching time — getting back into deep work isn't instant.
Overlapping meetings are counted once.
Examples
- 09:00–17:00 with a stand-up, a 90-minute review, lunch and a 1:1: 2 h 30 min of meetings, 4 h 30 min of focus, the longest block 2 h 15 min — and 15 minutes too short to use.
Good for
- Seeing why deep work never happens
- Deciding which meetings to move
- Making the case for no-meeting mornings
